Energica’s crisis: what will happen now?
Author: Marco Ghezzi | This publication is a collab between Marco Ghezzi, an Italian journalist focused on electric motorcycle news and promoting electric mobility through the eV-Now! Foundation and THE PACK.

In mid-October, Energica, a company specialized in the production of high-performance electric motorcycles, due to the ongoing reduction and subsequent freeze of financial support from its main investor, the American fund Ideanomics, was forced to halt production and file for judicial liquidation.

“A required legal action,” they state at Energica. “With the judicial liquidation filing, the court will assess the company’s financial situation to determine whether it can be restructured or if it must be liquidated to settle debts with creditors. This process could involve the sale of company assets, and depending on the court’s decision, there could be an attempt to save the company through a restructuring plan or proceed with its permanent closure.”

Despite some opinions that have appeared on social, Energica’s assets are still highly valuable and very appealing to potential companies and/or investors. It involves 50 highly specialized employees who have been part of Energica’s journey from the beginning, creating from scratch the most high-performance electric motorcycles on the market. These are people who know the technology inside out, the same who contributed to the international patents achieved over the years, and they could be crucial for a potential recovery. Today Energica has a warehouse at 60% capacity, capable of supporting production for the next two years, with an active customer portfolio, as evidenced by the French order of 200 motorcycles for state fleets. Despite this, for a true recovery, it is necessary to cover the production costs that the company has been unable to sustain in recent months.

The American fund Ideanomics, which had controlled 75% of the company since 2022, was impacted by the electric market crisis and the reduction of investments in the sector, significantly compromising its ability to invest in Energica. As a result, the agreed development plan was halted. However, it is important to note that Ideanomics believed in the Italian company, investing over 100 million dollars, even during the uncertainty brought on by Covid. Thanks to this, Energica was able to launch a new technological platform and introduce the green tourer Experia. Not to mention that Energica’s growth helped establish the “Electric Motor Valley,” as other companies linked to the electric market settled near Energica’s facilities.
In short, the value of the company is still “alive”: technological assets, professionals, and know-how. It’s a very attractive mix for industrial investors, with the hope that it can remain in Italy, despite the country being a challenging environment for doing business.
ENERGICA > Marchel Bulthuis, the Dutch importer of Energica, responds to the current situation Energica Motor Company SpA announced that its Board of Directors meeting resolved to enter into a bankruptcy judicial liquidation Energica, a human and technological heritage to be preservedGasGas updates its MC-E 5 electric offroad motorbike
Source: Press release GasGas | For 2025, this electric dirt bike is now water-cooled, better than ever, and built around a brand-new frame! The MC-E 5 now features all-new bodywork, a new shock position, and special graphics to indicate its battery-powered motor.

Introducing water cooling on the MC-E 5 is a real game changer. Not only does it keep the 5kW electric motor at a perfect temperature for consistent power, but it’s also extended the running time by 30%! One thing that does stay the same though is the fast recharging of the battery. It takes around 45 mins for an 80% recharge, and even better, it’s super easy to swap out the battery for a fully charged one, which means the fun doesn’t stop for long!

The MC-E 5’s frame is all-new for 2025. Designed specifically for this dirt bike, the chassis is engineered with refined flex characteristics. The end result? A much more stable and enjoyable riding experience for kids of all ages. The new frame also repositions the WP shock so that it performs even better, especially on the roughest of race tracks.

If you didn’t already know, the MC-E 5 is a fully fledged motocross bike. And it’s for this very reason that GasGas has fitted the same style bodywork that you’ll find on their full size models, just scaled down accordingly to create perfect, kid-friendly ergonomics. The 2025 MC-E 5 is a lot easier to have fun on as the riding experience is a considerable improvement over the outgoing model. The new graphics, featuring a splash of blue to highlight its electric drive, create a cool look for the little red ripper.

It makes no noise, meaning it can be ridden almost anywhere. It offers six ride modes, so progression is controlled. And the overall height can be adjusted so that kids can keep riding the same bike as they build up their skills and confidence. Built with plenty of safety features and high-quality parts, the MC-E 5 looks as great as it performs, thanks to its black handlebars and rims.

- Black anodized rims – Made from strong and light aluminum
- MAXXIS MX-ST tires – Provide excellent grip and traction to instill confidence in every young rider.
- Fiberglass-reinforced subframe – Super strong and lightweight for a low center of gravity.

LIZCAT > Fantic Netherlands collabs with Lizcat for a custom-made electric enduro Fantic XE1 Silent attack with the electric motorcross conversion-kits developed by Lizcat from SwitzerlandKTM unveiled the completely refreshed 2025 KTM FREERIDE E
After its initial release in the market, KTM’s electric FREERIDE concept has undergone a complete revamp and is now being reintroduced as the 2025 KTM FREERIDE E. This model marks the company’s continued dedication to exploring the freedom, practicality, and vast potential of off-road e-mobility. Accompanied by renowned hardenduro rider Manuel Lettenbichler, this bike represents a significant achievement for KTM, a decade since the original electric FREERIDE concept was introduced. Lettenbichler’s endorsement of the bike further showcases its exceptional performance in challenging off-road environments, solidifying its capabilities at the highest level of the sport.

KTM values the advantages of their platform, and the KTM FREERIDE E embodies those virtues perfectly. Not only does it address environmental concerns with its low emissions and nearly silent noise, making it suitable for riding in various locations, but it also boasts the benefits of low maintenance. This all-new bike is an ideal choice for riders who want to experience trial-like capabilities without being hindered by traditional trials bikes’ limitations, such as lack of seating, short gear ratios, and excessive noise. With instant torque and power, and a handlebar-mounted brake setup, experienced riders can focus on perfecting their technique and positioning while providing new riders with an easy introduction to the joy of riding.

In 2014, KTM introduced the KTM FREERIDE E in both Enduro and Motocross versions. A street-legal version was later released for urban commuting and recreational riding. Ten years have passed since then, and technology has advanced significantly, resulting in improved and lighter hardware, as well as cleverer software. The latest iteration of the KTM FREERIDE E shows that the company firmly believes in the potential of battery power. The 2025 model is a natural progression from the recently released KTM SX-E minicycles, which provide an excellent introduction to future riders.

KTM’s R&D department has been hard at work to introduce a thrilling take on electric drivetrain technology for the KTM FREERIDE E platform. With a nominal output of 11 kW, peak power of 19.2 kW, torque exceeding 37 Nm, and a maximum speed of 95 km/h, the motor is not only powerful but also operates quietly and stays cool. It is also water and dustproof and seamlessly integrated into the overall design and feel of the motorcycle. The engine offers three ride modes (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT) and three energy recuperation settings (OFF, MID, HIGH) for customizable range and power options. Traction control can be adjusted to limit or increase wheelspin. Additionally, there is a safety feature in the form of a ‘rollover sensor’ that cuts power in case of an accident.

KTM focused on creating a motorcycle with agile and lightweight handling, so they designed a brand new chassis. By altering the geometry and widening the wheelbase for increased stability and comfort, they were able to keep the chassis slim and lightweight. This was achieved by hinging the chrome-molybdenum steel frame on the load-bearing engine and battery architecture. The final weight of the ride-ready bike is expected to be less than 112 kg, thanks in part to the use of aluminum and glass-fiber reinforced nylon in the subframe. The seat height for the KTM FREERIDE E is 910 mm.

The MX50 Lithium-Ion battery, weighing 29 kg, has undergone rigorous testing and proven its durability in the most extreme conditions. It is designed to be interchangeable, allowing for the use of a second pack during charging or for extended travel time. With a capacity of 5.5 kWh, it boasts an improvement of 1.5 kWh compared to the previous KTM FREERIDE E, offering 20% more riding time or distance. The battery can withstand over 1000 charge cycles before experiencing a decrease in effectiveness to 80%. For typical Enduro riding, it is estimated to last between 2 and 3 hours.
The KTM FREERIDE E is equipped with a 660 W charger that can fully charge the bike in 8 hours using a standard household power supply. If you only need to charge between 20-80%, it can be done in 4-5 hours.

The latest generation of WP Suspension offers reliable and durable handling. The front end is responsive, yet maintains stability when needed, thanks to the lightweight 43 mm WP XACT split design fork. On the left side, there is an air capsule for easy adjustment with a single air pressure valve and included air pump for preload. The right side contains the oil damping system with clickers for compression and rebound adjustments. The new WP XPLOR PDS system has been designed to provide 250 mm of travel on the rear. With optimized oil flow, riders can expect a consistent and smooth damping experience from the 374 mm shock. Additionally, the new bearing seals allow for longer service intervals. The WP XPLOR PDS also features tool-less clicker adjustments for quick modifications while riding.

Additional features include black aluminum wheels (equipped with flexible Michelin Enduro Medium tires for EU models), advanced BRAKETEC brakes with 260/240 mm discs in both the front and rear, a new Switchcube control unit on the handlebars, and in-mold graphics and design elements that seamlessly enhance the appearance and identity of the KTM SX and KTM EXC series.

Designed for the ultimate off-roading experience, the 2025 KTM FREERIDE E is a versatile electric dirt bike that also boasts road-legal capabilities thanks to its road homologation. This unique feature allows riders to explore untouched trails and seamlessly transition onto public roads without any legal hurdles, making it the perfect choice for all-around adventure seekers.

This launch is a key stage in Renault’s plans to transform the way we get around, through eco-friendly solutions and a smarter approach to mobility that is also more fun.
These four means of mobility are intended for small-scale production. They will be available from next spring, like Renault 4. One of these French companies is Ateliers HeritageBike.

Ateliers HeritageBike has a unique vision for electric motorcycles compared to other manufacturers. While some are focusing on modern and futuristic designs, they firmly believe that an electric motorcycle should evoke a strong emotional response. It should capture the imagination with its graceful lines, balanced curves, and stylish aesthetics. This was the inspiration for the ‘Heritage Spirit Scrambler’, a dynamic homage to the iconic motorcycles of the Steve McQueen era while also embracing our rich heritage.

Xavier Wargnier, co-founder Ateliers HeritageBike: “Created in partnership with Renault for the 2024 Paris Motor Show, this exclusive edition of only 10 units (26 900,00 €) has already become a symbol since its initial reveal! This new electric motorcycle, entirely manufactured in France, has been reimagined with the iconic design and colors of the Renault 4. Its “Cloud Blue” shade and specific lighting pay tribute to the R4, while the seat is made with premium materials. Blending elements from the original sleek motorcycle with influences from the legendary R4, this unique collaboration offers a mix of performance, sophistication, and modernity. The revamped appearance incorporates details inspired by the renowned car, yet retains our Neo-Retro style.”

Ateliers HeritageBike, a start-up located in Annecy, specializes in producing extraordinary electric bikes and motorbikes. Their products combine elegant engineering with environmentally conscious design, showcasing the best of French craftsmanship and expertise. The Heritage Spirit Scrambler is influenced by the aesthetic of the 1980s and comes equipped with a powerful 7 kW motor (providing 280 Nm of torque) and a battery capacity of up to 4.6 kWh, allowing for a standard range of 110 km.
ATELIERS HERITAGEBIKE >FUELL Inc. has entered into chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings
Source: Bankruptcy Observer | On October 16, 2024, FUELL INC. (Wisconsin), filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin under case number 24-25492. This marks a major step in the company’s efforts to restructure its finances. According to court documents, FUELL INC. is seeking relief from its debts through this bankruptcy filing and Judge Katherine M. Perhach will oversee the proceedings. The company’s primary address for all correspondence and filings related to the case will be 1012 Main Street, Mukwonago WI. A hearing has been scheduled to confirm the bankruptcy plan, which is expected to provide more information on the company’s financial responsibilities and restructuring plans.

According to its bankruptcy filing, FUELL INC. predicts that there will be enough assets in the estate to provide payment to unsecured creditors.
The first time that we wrote about Fuell was in March 2019: Official press release New York, Paris – 4 March, 2019 | “Erik Buell, the creator of Buell Motorcycles and a renowned engineer, has joined forces with Frédéric Vasseur, the team principal for the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team and founder of Spark Racing Technology (which designs Formula E race cars), and Francois-Xavier Terny, an entrepreneur passionate about industrial projects. Together, they have united to provide a fresh perspective dedicated solely to urban riders.”

Despite what other media may have reported earlier, Energica Motor Company has not declared bankruptcy. Marchel Bulthuis, owner of Electric Motorcycles Nederland and importer of the Energica brand, denies the inaccurate speculation and stresses that the Italian motorcycle manufacturer’s board has instead chosen to begin a liquidation process in accordance with Italian law. This could potentially allow for a chance at a fresh start.

“It is incorrect to suggest that Energica is in the final phase of bankruptcy,” he says. Bulthuis refers to the announcement made by the Board of Directors of Energica Motor Company on October 14, stating that the manufacturer is undergoing a liquidation process. However, there is no talk of bankruptcy.
Incorrect interpretationMarchel Bulthuis: “Unfortunately, this message has been misinterpreted by the media. As the importer of Energica motorcycles, we have complete faith in the brand. While the recent news from this top Italian motorcycle manufacturer was unexpected, sensationalized reporting in the media does not aid in finding a resolution. It is crucial to remain composed and avoid premature assumptions in light of this situation.”
Full confidenceBulthuis assures us that nothing is final yet, and there are still many opportunities available. As the importer of Energica, Electric Motorcycles Nederland, along with their dealers, will continue to provide the best possible service to current owners of Energica motorcycles. Bulthuis remains optimistic about a bright future for Energica Motor Company, whether through a restart or finding a suitable successor.
ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES >Energica Motor Company SpA announced that its Board of Directors meeting resolved to enter into a bankruptcy judicial liquidation
Tuesday October 15th, 12:33 PM – We just received the official press release from Energica Motor Company about its Board of Directors meeting decision concerning the bankruptcy judicial liquidation.
Guy Salens – THE PACK: “This is again a very, very sad day for the European electric motorbike industry. I am speechless and I still have to process the news, this is absolutely not a good sign for the electric 2-wheeler mobility. What happened? I am publishing the full press release from Energica here.
Official press releaseEnergica Motor Company SpA, a manufacturer of high-performance electric motorcycles 75% controlled by the American fund Ideanomics Inc., announces that its Board of Directors meeting held on 14 October 2024 at 3:00 p.m. resolved to enter into a bankruptcy judicial liquidation pursuant to art. 121 et seq. of the insolvency law.
Officially founded in 2014 as Energica Motor Company Srl, and with a design phase that began in 2009, the company has established itself over 15 years as a benchmark for high-performance electric mobility, demonstrating resilience and innovation.
Thanks to its technical know-how, considered the company’s main asset, Energica has introduced four technological platforms to the market and has served as the Unique Manufacturer of the fourth MotoGP electric category, the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, for four consecutive years. Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, Energica achieved record sales volumes and revenues with the launch of the Experia model.
Energica’s entrepreneurial vision has been supported and financed from the outset by its founding partners, who in 2016 decided to list the company in the AIM Italia sector (now Euronext Growth Milan), dedicated to innovative Italian SMEs, to secure the necessary capital for growth that they could no longer sustain alone. The company was listed with a capitalization of €37.3 million.
In 2021, with the investment from Ideanomics Inc., Energica launched the Experia model, achieving record sales volumes and revenues of €13 million, a 200% increase compared to 2021.
In March 2022, Ideanomics successfully completed a voluntary takeover bid, which allowed the shareholders to transform the company into a private entity, making it more free and flexible in managing financing and agile in its growth.
However, the subsequent crisis in the electric market and the decline in sector investments impacted Ideanomics, and consequently, compromised Energica’s investment capabilities.
The company has also faced challenges from the downturn in the automotive market and supply chain, being particularly affected as a small and medium-sized enterprise. The commitment to its objectives and mission has remained steadfast, as demonstrated by initiatives like the solidarity contract aimed at safeguarding workers and overcoming the difficult period.
Despite the efforts from the management in actively and extensively pursuing a search for new investors – always with the aim of preserving going concern in the best interest of creditors – it has become clear in the last few hours that these alternative options are no more viable, thus leaving the company with no other choice than resolving for the opening of a bankruptcy judicial liquidation, thus allowing repayment of creditors to the extent possible from the proceeds of liquidation and according to pari passu rule and priority rankings.
Throughout its history, the company has consistently invested in its workforce, training staff in the most innovative skills in the electric mobility sector, without making any contract terminations in its 15 years of activity. The founding members have prioritized young talent, collaborating closely with schools and universities across the country and beyond. The average age of Energica employees has always ranged from 28 to 35 years.
Management has guaranteed salaries even during the most challenging periods, where necessary also thanks to the support of the Italian minority shareholders, always with a view to preserving business continuity and in the best interest of creditors and all stakeholders. In the last two years, some employees have voluntarily left the company; these professionals have since been absorbed by major players in the Motor Valley.
This press release is attributed to the founding members of Energica. It is noted that Ideanomics has chosen not to comment.
Energica timeline
Energica was born in the Italian Motor Valley, the land of legendary brands. Founded in 2014, CRP Group is an excellence in the world of world motorsport.
2014
launch of the first model, the Ego sportbike followed in 2015 by the Eva hypernaked. First legacy platform (Ego, Eva, EsseEsse9) with the same powertrain, 13.4 kWh battery and 150 km range.
2016
listing on the AIM Italia stock exchange – start of production.
2017 launch of the third model, the retro naked EsseEsse9 – the same technological platform, the legacy, of Ego and Eva.
2018
Dorna chooses Energica as the sole supplier for the first FIM Enel MotoE World Cup championship, the fourth category of the full electric MotoGP world championship. Together with Dorna, Energica forges an electric world championship, building rules and procedures that are still in force today.
2019/2022
4 years MotoE without any technical problems. Energica has been recognized by the financial market, which has allowed it to become self-sufficient and to self-finance, although not at the levels necessary for product industrialization, which is crucial for reaching break-even more quickly. This occurred especially during the significant challenges faced in the first year of competition.
2019
Energica introduces the 21.5 kWh battery with a range of up to 400 km. In 5 years, SME Energica has introduced 2 powertrains on the market (one with a 13.4 kWh battery and one with a 21.5 kWh battery, increasing the range of vehicles by 250 km, lowering the weight of its motorcycles by about 10 kilos).
2021
Launch of the new EMCE engine with industrial engine reshoring. A new technological platform with an EMCE motor with less weight and greater efficiency is therefore born. In these complex years marked by the global pandemic, Energica remains an Italian SME listed on the AIM that continues to invest with its own strengths, also doing reshoring and inserting a new technological platform.
March 2021 Ideanomics – new investor that allowed a technological boost: in 2022 launch of the Green Tourer Experia with new platform (+autonomy, -weight) and launch of the Energica Inside business unit (following the interest of large OEMs in Energica powertrains).
2022
Energica achieves record sales volumes and revenues of 13 million euros thanks to Experia and despite the covid years.
With the EMCE and Experia motor, Energica has launched, in 13 years of history, 4 technological platforms (with 13.4 kWh battery, with 21.5 kWh battery, with 21.5 kWh battery and EMCE motor, Experia platform).
2023
MotoAmerica Super Hooligan Championship with the Eva Ribelle RS with Customer Racing Kit. No electric vehicle had ever challenged traditional vehicles on the track, not even on four wheels and certainly not in a competition regulated by an international federation. During the sixth round of the 2024 All-Japan Championship at Wakayama’s Yuasa Trial Park, Takahisa Fujinami claimed a debut victory for Team HRC with Honda’s new RTL ELECTRIC Prototype.

After a 21-year absence, Fujinami made his comeback to the All-Japan Championship at this weekend’s event in SUGO. It was also the official debut of the new RTL ELECTRIC Prototype. Fujinami rode with his signature number 27, which he first used in 1994 when he joined the top class of the All-Japan Championship. This number holds significance for Fujinami as it was also the number he used during his first World Championship in 1996 and represents two major challenges he overcame in the past.

Takahisa Fujinami, Team HRC #27:
“It has been a long time since I participated in a competition, and this was my first All-Japan Championship round after 21 years. Thanks to the development team for preparing a machine that allowed me to win under pressure. Despite some mistakes in the second half of the first lap and in the special sections, I am grateful to have secured this victory. In two weeks there’s next SUGO competition, and we will continue to refine the machine for optimal performance and aim for another victory. I am also thankful for the opportunity to reunite with the fans on the All-Japan stage. Your support helped me achieve this victory. Thank you very much.”

Fujinami was added to the RTL ELECTRIC Prototype team this spring, and he had only trained on the machine for a mere two weeks. Despite this short preparation time, he entered the competition with a fierce determination to come out on top. However, since he had no prior achievements in the All-Japan series, meant that he started at the very front of the race, which put him at a disadvantage when it came to measuring his competitors’ abilities. He faced a difficult challenge as he attempted sections that no one had ever completed before.

During the first lap, Fujinami easily took the lead with a strong score. As he began the second lap, he made some adjustments to his strategy. In the previous lap, he had lost 17 points in sections 7 to 11, but in this lap, he only gave up 7 points in those sections. Ultimately, his final score for the second lap was 14 points, securing his victory and leaving his competitors unable to catch up. It was clear that Fujinami’s victory was secured.

Hikaru Tsukamoto, Director, Honda R&D and Managing Director, Honda Racing Corporation:
“As this was Team HRC’s first race with the electric trial bike, I believe it was a day where rider Fujinami, the assistant, and all the staff learned a lot. We are very pleased with the result of securing 1st place, but we will remain focused for the rest of the planned races. Thank you to everyone who supported us in this venture.”
Our THE PACK Plaza Calendar for 2025
At THE PACK Plaza, our goal is to inform consumers, businesses, and industry professionals about electric motorbikes and mopeds in order to increase awareness and usage.

Guy Salens: “We have created a unique pop-up space that can be found at various automotive events throughout the Benelux area (Belgium, Netherlands). Through negotiations with event organizers, we are able to offer affordable rates for startups and brands to showcase their products. We have deliberately chosen not to participate in motorcycle events, but instead focus on larger car shows that attract a high volume of visitors. Our first successful experience was at the Brussels Auto Show in January 2024, where there was great interest in our environmentally-friendly mode of transportation. In partnership with 402 Automotive, THE PACK proudly presented a live electric hub spanning 300 square meters, showcasing a range of light electric vehicle manufacturers and their innovative solutions for mobility.”

You may have heard the saying: “if you can’t beat them, join them.” While it may seem a bit extreme, the truth is that the electric two-wheeler industry is still a relatively new and underestimated market. Since 2017, our international platform, THE PACK, has been spreading awareness about this innovative form of e-mobility to a global audience online. And now, with THE PACK Plaza, we have the exciting opportunity to showcase real-life solutions to the public. Our focus is not only on existing motorcycle riders but also on potential clients who are tired of being stuck in traffic. Thanks to advancements in technology, riding these lightweight electric vehicles has become incredibly easy. In Belgium, you can even use your car license to legally ride an 11 kW motorbike (equivalent to a traditional 125cc bike) – making it accessible to even more people. Test rides are available at THE PACK Plaza for the complete experience.

Ronald van den Broek – 402 Automotive: “Starting in 2025, the location of the renowned Brussels Auto Show will shift to Flanders Expo in Ghent, now known as the Belgium Auto Show. This relocation allows for a whopping 70,000 square meters of space to create an unparalleled car exhibition experience. Exciting features include the highly anticipated return of the Car Catwalk, where hypercars and supercars will be on display, as well as a brand new outdoor Action Arena with rally car demonstrations, stunts, and drift shows. Attendees can also look forward to discovering the latest car models from local and regional distributors and browsing through various exhibits from the aftermarket, leasing, accessories and more. On top of that, THE PACK Plaza will showcase a various lineup of electric motorbikes and mopeds.”

“After gathering feedback through online surveys, it was evident that the majority of visitors to the first Brussels Auto Show were in favor of relocating to Ghent. With a resounding 90% expressing interest in attending the second edition, it’s clear that Ghent and its newly added Action Arena were highly favored choices. These factors played a significant role in our decision to continue hosting BAS in its new location. The passion for cars in Belgium remains strong, and we are thrilled to welcome back car enthusiasts to Ghent in 2025,” stated van den Broek.

Energica, a human and technological heritage to be preserved
Author: Marco Ghezzi | This publication is a collab between Marco Ghezzi, an Italian journalist focused on electric motorcycle news and promoting electric mobility through the eV-Now! Foundation and THE PACK.

Located in Modena, at the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, the same region where legendary automotive brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, and others were born, lies Energica. This company, driven by the passion, commitment, and expertise of its people, today stands as flagship of electric two-wheel mobility Made in Italy. Its motorcycles, high-performing and technologically advanced, range from the most sporty models to those designed for touring, and are admired and in demand worldwide, with a strong presence in the USA and Northern Europe.

Founded in 2014 from the bold vision of the CRP Group, a family owned enterprise synonymous with excellence in motorsport, Energica has set the standard for high-performance electric mobility over 13 years of hard work and extraordinary achievements. It has proven that electric motorcycles can offer the same excitement and performance that enthusiasts expect from traditional bikes. In 2014, the sportbike Energica EGO was introduced, followed by the naked EVA in 2015. These pioneering motorcycles made bold statements of faith in a sustainable future. In 2017, the EsseEsse9 was unveiled, introducing innovations in battery and motor design, culminating in the revolutionary touring bike Experia in 2022. All these products combine great power and torque, the fastest charging—also in direct current—and the longest range between charges ever achieved for series-production electric motorcycles.

Great satisfaction also came from competitive racing, as from 2019 to 2022 Energica served as the sole manufacturer for the FIM MotoE World Cup, the fully electric class of MotoGP. Energica provided 18 Ego Corsa motorcycles, none will have any technical problem, earning praise for their reliability and performance from both professional riders and MotoGP team managers.
In 2023, a major breakthrough occurred in the racing world with Energica’s participation in the MotoAmerica Super Hooligan Championship with the Eva Ribelle RS, equipped with the Kit Corsa Clienti. This was a challenge never before attempted in a road series, not even on four wheels, as Energica became the first and only electric motorcycle manufacturer to compete in a championship against internal combustion engine bikes. The Eva Ribelle made history with a series of victories, securing 2nd place at COTA and finishing the championship in 4th place.

All of this was accomplished by a small start-up with limited resources and funding which, despite the odds, achieved peak sales and revenues of €13 million in 2022. However, Energica’s primary investor, the American company Ideanomics, hit by the Nasdaq tech stock crisis, has increasingly delayed its financial support since 2022, eventually cutting it off completely in 2023. Today, Energica faces a paradoxical situation because, despite a substantial order backlog (further to this, Energica won 3 tenders for the fleet with France government, Paris city government, Spain, and they are testing bikes with 17 further tenders worldwide with extreme success and satisfaction of the government testers), it is struggling to continue production and is urgently seeking new investors to avoid the risk of closure. Furthermore Energica is the manufacturer earning more credits from the CARB (California Air Resources Board) to offset penalties for ICE bikes manufacturer at all.

“We have highlighted the value the company has brought to the Motor Valley over these 13 years. We created the so-called ‘Electric Valley’ thanks to the investments of the founding partners and minority shareholders who have continued to support the business through the darkest times. Other companies have invested in EVs and chosen to locate their headquarters near our facilities because of us,” said then CEO Livia Cevolini. “Now, we need help. We have developed technology, know-how, and jobs in our region. Over the past 18 months, we have engaged with various investors and industrial groups, but it seems nearly impossible to find investors willing to commit, particularly in the EV industry during this period and especially in Italy.”

The issue has even been brought to the Regional level, but politics has not made any real effort, going no further than social safety nets, which remain merely a stopgap. Unfortunately, this is a truly critical moment, and it’s not just about saving a company but also about protecting a human and technological heritage, as well as a milestone in the world of electric mobility and automotive industry. Allowing this to dissipate would be unforgivable.
ENERGICA >Note of THE PACK, Guy Salens: “We have been following Energica since our startup began in early 2017. In the spring of that year, we were lucky to test ride the Eva and Ego models in the Netherlands. Five years later, in 2022, we were invited by Marchel Bulthuis from Energica Motor Nederland (the official importer of the Italian brand in the Netherlands) to test their newest model, “Experia”. Our test rider Andrew Thijssen from BMS-E Motorrijder had nothing but positive things to say about these high-tech Italian electric motorbikes. It would be a great loss for the electric motorbike industry if this brand ever disappeared. I am making a strong appeal to potential investors who can provide growth opportunities for this European brand.”

EICMA 2024 | BALISTRON will launch their SPORT TS16.10 electric motorbike at EICMA
Sponsored press release | BALISTRON, a new electric mobility brand, will make its global debut at the EICMA 2024 Milan motorcycle event. Mert Gucluer, founding partner and executive, announces that they will begin operations in European markets after the November 2024 show. One of their highly anticipated products, SPORT TS16.10, has already garnered attention from potential corporate partners.

At this inaugural meet-up of motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Europe, BALISTRON will showcase this SPORT TS16.10 model. According to Mert Gucluer, the distinguishing feature of the TS series is its wide range of customization options for owners in terms of style and accessories, which they will be demonstrating during the event.
Standard features of the TS16.10:
- keyless start
- heated handles and seat
- ABS
- traction control system
- cruise control
- tire pressure monitor

- Pirelli tires
- engine sound on/off
According to the technical specifications, BALISTRON SPORT utilizes a 100V electric system and has an estimated range of 250 km with its 11.5 kWh battery and 16 kW peak power. After more than 20 months of extensive development and testing, BALISTRON is prepared to introduce four styles of motorcycles – scrambler, naked, sport, and cruiser – into European markets.

Note of the Editor:
We were surprised by the presence of what appeared to be ‘exhaust-pipes’ on this SPORT model. Doubtful, we reached out to BALISTRON for clarification on whether we had received incorrect images. To our surprise, we learned that these were not actual exhaust pipes, but rather sound speakers! It turns out that some of the BALISTRON team have backgrounds in the car industry and enjoy incorporating automotive elements into their designs. While it may not be everyone’s taste, there is an option to remove the sound speakers or simply turn off the engine sound with a button.
Guy Salens – THE PACK: It’s quite a daring choice to prominently display these system speakers, almost resembling an exhaust pipe on an electric motorbike. But BALISTRON also wants to attract the traditional motor enthusiasts. I’m eager to see the responses at EICMA!

BALISTRON >New hard enduro eMoto Class at Red Bull Romaniacs 2025
Source: Red Bull Romaniacs | Mark your calendars for the 22nd edition of the Red Bull Romaniacs, taking place from July 22 to July 26, 2025. Hard enduro riders from all around the globe will gather in Sibiu once again to compete in the world’s only five-day extreme hard enduro rally. Whether amateur or professional, these enthusiastic riders will put their skills to the ultimate test on the challenging course. Registrations will open on Tuesday October 1. 2024 at 12:00 EEST. Register here to race >

The organizers of Red Bull Romaniacs are thrilled to announce the addition of four new classes for the 2025 competition. Adventure motorcycles will now have two options: the Ultimate Class and the Lite Class, while eMoto motorcycles will also have two choices: the Expert Class and the Hobby Class. Each category will have an entry-level option for casual competitors and a more advanced level for expert riders, providing opportunities for participants with varying skill levels in both disciplines.

Martin Freinademetz: “We really want to be the first rallye style event to be a part of the eMoto development, we don’t know which direction things will go but we want to support the industry and I think Red Bull Romaniacs is a very good test for the eMoto bikes. We want to be part of the future in this sector and are excited to be the first hard enduro rallye to introduce two classes for eMoto’s.
The release of the eMoto Class showcases Martin Freinademetz’s determination to stay ahead of the game and propel the sport into the future while also promoting environmental consciousness. The 2024 Limitless Edition marked the debut of eMotos on the Romaniacs tracks, with seven riders competing in a range of classes to test their skills in long-distance hard enduro races and challenging technical sections.

Insights and feedback gathered from tests in 2024 are currently being used to design the first year of eMoto specific classes. The rapid advancements and research in the eMoto industry have led Freinademetz and Track Director, Teo Isac, to consider adjusting the distance and technicality of the tracks closer to the start date in order to keep up with bike technology. Typically, eMoto tracks will be approximately 35 km in length before reaching the Service Point, with an additional 20 km after allowing time for battery recharge during the pit stop.

The eMoto racing class will participate in the 2025 Prolog track alongside other classes. However, due to their ability to race on shorter tracks and in rallies, the entry fee will be adjusted to make it more appealing to participants.
