To ensure safe braking, the vehicle is equipped with CBS technology.

When it comes to the key component of electric vehicles- the battery, Yologo has selected LG cells. These cells are renowned for their high energy density, excellent safety features, and long lifespan. Each battery weighs just 15.9 kg and can be easily removed. The Yolo01 model has the capability to hold two batteries at once, increasing its range significantly.

Introducing the latest model of Yologo’s retro-style electric motorcycle, equipped with a powerful middle motor boasting 11 kw of power. Foundation and THE PACK. A journey through historical events and thrilling active tourism experiences to discover some of the most renowned places, as well as lesser-known ones in Normandy.

As the wheels of our electric fat bikes race across an endless expanse of golden sand, pounded by a relentless sea, I can’t help but think that right here one of the most brutal and tragic battles in contemporary history took place. We’re at Omaha Beach, and this shore, like many others along the Normandy coast, was the stage for the famous D-Day, the Allied invasion that marked the beginning of the end of World War II. These places, with their immense historical significance, – the 80th anniversary of D-Day was recently commemorated here – make you stop and reflect.

However, alongside the powerful memory of the past, these locations now offer engaging active tourism experiences. We’re eager to explore them in a different way, more dynamic and stimulating, that, while respecting their solemnity, offers a renewed image of this region. Here we are, pedaling along with Gilles, our guide, who, with great passion and enthusiasm, explains the stages of the landing, taking us to the most significant spots on Omaha Beach, from bunkers to trenches, even showing us the remains of an amphibious vehicle recently unearthed from the sands. Touching this relic from the past, our thoughts turn to the thousands of men who sacrificed their lives here so we could live in a freer world. Not far away Utah Beach, the first to be stormed by the Allies, is another iconic site of that June 6, 1944, when 23,000 soldiers landed.

Here too, while we can immerse ourselves in history at the large museum overlooking the sea or in front of the many commemorative monuments and moving memorials, we’re also ready for a new adrenaline experience, challenging the beach aboard car sailings. Steering these small sailboats on wheels takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pure fun to race, drift, chase each other, and sometimes even flip over, powered only by the wind!

The same wind that brushes against us as while our journey continues aboard two exceptional vehicles. In addition to honoring history, we also want to be respectful of the solemn atmosphere and the preserved nature of these places, visiting them almost “on tiptoe.” That’s why we opted for electric motorcycles, an EsseEsse 9 and an Experia from Energica, both perfectly suited for touring.

These motorbikes are not only eco-friendly but also move quietly, allowing us to experience firsthand the real potential of taking a medium-to-long distance trip by electric mobility. After all, this is a new way of traveling on two wheels, still in its early stages in some respects, but with the potential to become an exciting adventure, especially for the motorcyclists of a new era. Normandy has proven to be ideal for an electric road trip, and it’s a true pleasure to find ourselves leisurely wandering, following the numerous winding, solitary roads that weave through the countryside, accompanied only by the sound of the wind.

As the roads of the Cotentin Peninsula, for example, which stretch from the bucolic landscapes of the inland to the wind-swept coast, passing through picturesque fishing villages, where the genuine rhythm of daily life still flows. Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue is one such village, welcoming us with the lively atmosphere of its renowned market, where the “petit paniers,” local small-scale producers, offer fresh seafood and seasonal goods. The stalls are brimming with oysters, scallops, a mouth-watering array of cheeses -including the ever-present Camembert – and many other regional specialties, creating a true feast of Norman flavors.

Continuing along the coast, we reach the huge beach of Jonville. This stretch of shoreline, where the tide can retreat for hundreds of meters, is an ideal spot for a relaxing walk or simply stopping to gaze at the ocean, soaking in that sense of vastness and freedom that these spaces with their infinite horizons so effortlessly evoke.

History takes center stage again when we arrive in Arromanches, a town famous for the artificial harbor used during the D-Day landings. At the evocative D-Day Museum, a lot of models, photos, and archival videos showcase the phases of constructing this remarkable feat. But what leaves the strongest impression are the remnants of the landing platforms, known as Mulberry Harbour, which still stand today as silent witnesses to a monumental undertaking. Our kayaks are already waiting on the shore, and for another adrenaline-filled adventure, we set out to explore these metal giants from the sea. The water-level perspective offers a unique and evocative view, making it easy to imagine the constant flow of troops and materials that passed through here during those crucial days.

Beyond its historical significance, Arromanches has much more to offer. Its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, the charming Norman houses with their stone facades and slate roofs, the lovely seaside promenade, and the small cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy delicious seafood dishes and sip on a good Calvados (the famous Norman apple brandy) make it a truly delightful town. The most enchanting moment, however, comes once again on our bikes. With just a touch of throttle, we follow the road that winds up to the Royal Memorial promontory, one of the best spots to take in the panoramic view of this stretch of coast. In front of us, the sunset paints the cliffs in countless shades of red and orange while the sun disappears over the horizon.

Beyond the beaches and historical memories, however, there is another Normandy waiting to be discovered, that of the inland. The locals call it “La Suisse Normande,”  for its rolling green hills, dense forests, and picturesque villages that paint a completely different landscape from the coast. We realize this as we follow the winding roads through a scene that feels like it’s straight out of an Impressionist painting. The discreet hum of our electric bikes makes us feel even more immersed in the tranquility and beauty of these places, adding a touch of magic to our journey. 

Le Hom is a small village that seems frozen in time. Nestled between the hills and the Orne River, it retains an authentic rural architecture and a slow pace of life. Here, the waters of the Orne flow gently, perfect for a relaxed paddle; the canoes lined up along the banks beckon us, and we’re quick to trade our saddles for paddles, ready to enjoy another delightful excursion. The picturesque village of Clécy, known as the “capital” of Norman Switzerland, embodies even more the charm and beauty of the French countryside, offering a perfect blend of history and outdoor adventure. Just outside the village, a trail leads to the Rochers des Parcs, a natural area marked by towering cliffs overlooking the Orne River. The climb, though short, requires some effort, but in the end, we’re rewarded for making the trek. From the top of a rock overlooking the valley, we can take in a breathtaking natural panorama.

The winding and thrilling Route des Crêtes runs high along the hills, leading us to Rochers de la Houle, the most spectacular viewpoint in Norman Switzerland, and finally to Falaise, famous as the birthplace of William the Conqueror. The town, still enclosed by mighty walls, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, preserves its medieval soul. William’s castle, perched atop a hill, dominates the landscape, and visiting it is like stepping back in time, through medieval rooms and massive walls that tell the story of the Norman who became King of England.

In the nearby square named after him, we come across “War is Hell,” a unique artwork in France, created by Jef Aérosol, a pioneering French street artist. He has adorned a real Sherman tank with dozens of images of men, women, and children. It’s a tribute to the civilians and soldiers who were victims of conflicts, a message of peace, and a symbol of a Normandy that remembers its past but also seeks to give history a new face.

Normandy is well-organized in terms of electric mobility, with charging stations, particularly AC ones, distributed across the region. Fast DC charging stations are available in all major towns along the coast, but somewhat less so in the inland areas. We found DC charging stations in Caen, Bayeux, Carentan, Valognes, often located near shopping centers. A useful app for finding these stations is Nextcharge, which also allows preloading the card for payments.

WMC (White Motorcycle Concepts), the company leading the British electric motorcycle land-speed world-record program, has unveiled an innovative and fast-charging electric motorcycle that is tailored to meet the unique needs of fleets and first responders around the world.

With a 100-mile range on the intense emergency services drive cycle (or 125 miles on the standard drive cycle), the WMC300E+ is a powerhouse. Its unique battery design, developed by MAHLE Powertrain, allows for quick recharging in under 15 minutes using a standard CCS charger.

“The whole industry is facing a huge technical and commercial challenge to produce an electric motorcycle with performance close to its petrol equivalent,” said Robert White, Founder & CEO, White Motorcycle Concepts. “Current electric motorcycles are focussed upon retail needs, but fleet customers, and particularly emergency first responders, demand high levels of availability that, due to charge times, existing solutions just can’t deliver. Meeting that demand, while complying with forthcoming legislation and helping to achieve all fleet’s net-zero ambitions, has required clean-sheet engineering thinking and the combination of some innovative technologies. At the centre of its unique capabilities are a remarkable aerodynamic performance and an innovative battery design. The WMC300E+ patented V-Duct, which runs through the middle of the motorcycle, significantly reduces drag and improves overall performance, stability, and energy consumption. This novel central air duct is a result of years of refinement through WMC’s land-speed record initiatives. In the WMC300E+, a dual-channel system has been optimized to increase aerodynamic efficiency by 25%.

A crucial element in the bike’s ability to charge quickly and operate efficiently is its unique battery design, developed and constructed by MAHLE Powertrain, a specialized engineering company. Switching to an electric powertrain for motorcycles allows for more flexibility in packaging, which influenced the shape of the battery. After extensive testing and development, WMC and MAHLE Powertrain engineers chose a T-shaped battery pack that not only centralizes mass for optimal vehicle performance, but also maximizes aerodynamic efficiency and fits within the complex packaging limitations of the bike.

The battery cell is equipped with advanced Lithium Cobalt Oxide and Nickel Manganese Aluminium chemistry that allows for high charging rates while also being highly resistant to wear and tear, resulting in a longer lifespan. This pack includes key components inspired by MAHLE Powertrain’s M³x battery module concept, including innovative cooling methods that improve cell thermal performance and maintain consistent temperatures throughout the entire pack. It also has the capability to prevent any potential failure from spreading between cells.

The battery pack includes a built-in DC-DC converter, providing a direct connection for the traction motor, charger, and 12V system of the bike. This makes for a simpler implementation overall. The design also took into account the necessary power for auxiliary equipment like lights, sirens, and radios used by emergency personnel. Despite its large 11.9 kWh capacity, the battery was designed with efficiency in mind to allow for practical under-seat storage, easily fitting a full-face helmet.

“This project called upon the full suite of capabilities available at our Battery Engineering Centre in Northampton,” said Jonathan Hall, MAHLE Powertrain’s Head of Research and Advanced Engineering department. “Starting with a clean-sheet design, using a range of validated in-house modelling and simulation techniques, through to pack specification, cell selection and characterisation, prototyping and testing, and finally small series production, our team have worked closely with WMC to deliver the engineering solutions needed to meet their ambitious targets.”

With its fully-electric propulsion system, the new WMC300E+ not only produces zero emissions during use, but also boasts better acceleration than its gasoline counterpart. This model is also capable of reaching speeds up to 100mph while maintaining excellent aerodynamic stability, even with heavily-loaded panniers attached.

The bike’s eye-catching appearance increases the visibility of riders, an essential aspect in emergency response situations. Additionally, its ability to be operated with a standard car license eliminates the need for specialized training, making it suitable for paramedics and other first responders as well as for last-mile delivery tasks. Its compact charging requirements also make it convenient for deployment in areas where space and power resources are limited.

In addition to providing eco-friendly transportation for quick response fleets, the initiative also aligns with WMC’s commitment to sustainability by incorporating recycled carbon-fiber into the motorcycle’s construction. The battery pack, developed by MAHLE Powertrain, is designed to be the optimal size and allows for fast charging, reducing the need for rare earth materials and minimizing downtime

Thanks to the Advanced Propulsion Centre’s ARMD2 program, this project has received partial funding. It is an extension of the successful WMC300FR hybrid motorcycle project, which was created in partnership with Northamptonshire Police and is currently being tested by emergency services throughout the UK.

The new WMC300E+ made its public debut at Cenex Expo 2024, which ran from 4-5th September at UTAC Millbrook.

I’ve had the opportunity to ride with NIU’s various mopeds in the past and more recently, their first electric motorbike RQi. Today, NIU’s Flagship Store Antwerp delivered their newest model, the XQi3, to THE PACK office.

Electric light offroad

Ever since Sur-Ron introduced their lightweight offroad e-bikes, many other brands (mostly Asian) have followed suit. However, the new NIU XQi3 dirt e-bike stands out with its numerous advanced technology features that are not seen in other light electric vehicles of its class. NIU has extensive experience with mopeds (45 & 90 km/h) and scooters (steps), so it was surprising to see them venture into the offroad market with their platform.

The XQi3 comes in two variations: STREET and WILD. The STREET model has a maximum speed of 45km/h and is legal for street use. The WILD model can reach a top speed of 75km/h, but is not legal for street use and is only suitable for off-road riding. In the accompanying app, riders have the option to activate Wild Mode on their XQi3. This mode increases the sensitivity of acceleration and throttle control, making it perfect for experienced riders. It’s important to note that Wild Mode does not alter the bike’s maximum speed or power output, regardless of which model you have. Additionally, there is an Ultra Boost trigger on the XQi3 itself that temporarily boosts the power from 6000w to 8000w for a duration of 10 seconds. This does not affect the top speed of the bike either.

NIU XQi3

As the Antwerp NIU-team unloaded the XQi3 from their van, it didn’t look like an oversized mountain bike. In fact, it was about the size of a real motorbike with a seat height of 87.5 cm, putting you on eye level with a KTM 990 Supermoto. Not that I would be able to ride it nearly as fast … I also noticed that it had a strong chain instead of a light bicycle version, which was definitely a plus.

The design of this bike is completely different from others in its category, and I really appreciate something that stands out from the rest. The three diagonal lights give it a unique touch (not sure if it’s road legal in Europe), and let’s not forget NIU’s signature round halo front light. The materials used are high quality, and the overall finish is of equal caliber. The KKE suspension offers a smooth and customizable ride, while DOT brakes are present both in the front and rear.

This motor is designed to produce a maximum torque of 357 Nm and a peak power output of 6000 watts, with the ability to temporarily boost up to 8000 watts for 10 seconds. It’s an excellent introduction to electric offroad driving, while more experienced riders will appreciate its power and agility. The bike is equipped with a robust 72-volt, 32-amp battery system that provides reliable performance and a range of 75-90 kilometers. Plus, if you switch out the rugged tires for road tyres, it transforms into an urban commuter vehicle with an adventurous vibe.

This bike allows you to choose how to start it: with a NFC card, a traditional key, or through an app using Bluetooth and your mobile phone. I opted for the card and kept it safely in my pocket throughout my ride. To start the bike, simply pull one of the brake levers and push the button. Each action is accompanied by a faint “bleep” noise. It has 2 drive modes: Eco and Sport. In Sport mode, you can activate the UltraBoost feature for 10 seconds.

The seat of the vehicle is both spacious, soft, and lengthy, and in front of it lies the lever that leads to the battery section. However, this feature has one drawback: whenever you need to charge the battery, you must first remove the seat, pull another lever to access the battery, and unplug it so you can use the external battery charger provided. Alternatively, you can choose to take out the 15.4 kg battery and charge it in a secure location or swap it with a spare one (which can come in handy for off-road adventures).

As I mentioned earlier, the technological features of this product are quite impressive. An overview:

• NFC Unlock: simply place your card against the small black NFC display to un/activate the bike
• Bluetooth Unlock: link your bike to the mobile application and utilize your phone.
• Emergency Kill Switch: similar to motortrial or using a jet-ski, you have the option to attach a cable to your wrist on the removable grey plastic button at the steering wheel. This added safety feature will automatically shut off power to the motor in case you are thrown off the bike (a second spare one is hidden under the seat)
• Built-in Type C USB Charger at the steering wheel.
• Lap Timer: you can activate a built-in timer to race trails against the clock.
• Route Tracking: Your route will be tracked and easily accessed on the XQi3 display and app (Warning: this is NOT a GPS, if you get lost or the bike has been stolen, you can’t track the bike with this feature).
• Answer Calls: Hands-free convenience redefined with just a click.
• Bright TFT Display: it presents all the essential details of your trip in a user-friendly and clear layout.

Riding the NIU XQi3

I initially started in ECO Mode, but I quickly shifted to SPORT mode for more power. The bike’s wide handlebar offered an excellent upright riding position and my MX boots found a secure grip on the strong foot pegs. The wheel’s 2 handles had an ergonomic grip thanks to their small 3D-knobs. The suspensions (both front and rear) were easily adjustable and provided a smooth ride without needing any further adjustments. However, the brakes were starting to squeak a bit, indicating it may be time to replace the pads after the past 6 months of heavy testing of this bike in various conditions throughout Europe.

Performing wheelies may not be the intended purpose, but it is definitely fun and no problem at all with this bike. With the engine located near the bottom of the aluminum frame, this motorcycle has a low center of gravity and excellent maneuverability. I noticed that the steering handles well on narrow paths, and the plastic protectors prevent any contact between the fork and frame. While a larger rear tire would improve its appearance, it’s just a minor detail.

Conclusion

My experience with this motorcycle was immensely enjoyable. I immediately felt at ease and familiar with its controls, allowing me to expertly navigate off the road. And even when I needed to make adjustments or corrections, the bike’s light weight made it effortless. While it may not be suitable for winning a hard enduro race, this bike guarantees you a lot of fun. You’ll find plenty of advanced technical features on this unique LEV. And if off-roading isn’t your thing, simply swap out the tyres for some road ones and you’ll have a one-of-a-kind LEV at your disposal. And with a starting price of €5,999, what more could you ask for?

Working hand in hand with Australia Post, a fleet of 175 motorbikes will be hitting the roads, greatly decreasing carbon emissions and increasing productivity. These rear wheel drive bikes are designed to navigate various routes, from bustling city streets to remote countryside roads, with an impressive top speed of 95kph.

In November 2022, Australia Post and UBCO began discussions about a new project. By 2023, trials had already begun with the goal of creating a rear-wheel drive electric motorbike that could travel up to 100km at a maximum speed of 85kph. These requirements were necessary for safe travel on both urban streets and rural roads. The starting point for this project was the reliable UBCO 2X2 platform.

The UBCO Product Development team collaborated with the Australia Post fleet team to enhance the 2X2 and surpass expectations. In mid-2023, mail delivery field trials were carried out in Melbourne, Sydney, and Tasmania to test its capabilities.

Input from riders confirmed the product’s potential – it was a superior ride compared to the previous fleet, with faster acceleration and without any heat or noise. The positive results from the trials led to further collaboration between the teams, resulting in improvements such as footbrakes, fairings, suspension, and better ergonomics. The larger direct-drive motor at the back is incredibly silent, and when paired with the new 6.2kWh battery, it offers both strength and distance.

The end result is the ‘DUTY’ – UBCO’s latest and most advanced electric utility motorbike.

This weekend, the 7th edition of the Electric Night Ride took place in the Netherlands. After last year’s ENR in Brussels, Cornee Bosmans volunteered to take on the organization and, in collaboration with Gert-Jan Rongen from Electric Motorbikes Nederland, rose to the challenge. Brainport Eindhoven, a top technology region, temporarily became the home base for around 50 electric motorcyclists. The Automotive Campus in Helmond served as the ideal gathering place.

Zero Motorcycles test rides during the day

To make the event appealing to non-electric motorcyclists as well, Electric Motorbikes Nederland organized a test ride day in cooperation with Zero Motorcycles. Additionally, six Zero electric motorcycles were made available for the Night Ride in the evening. This initiative was clearly appreciated, as these motorcycles were reserved in no time.

Another highlight was the extensive BBQ on the terrace of the Automotive Campus. Over 40 participants had registered in advance and enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet in the evening sun with motorcycles in the background. Old (international) acquaintances reunited, and new young riders were eager to hear the stories of the ‘veterans.’ Meanwhile, many motorcycles were charging at the various charging stations on the Automotive Campus grounds.

After a briefing by the organizers and an enthusiastic welcome speech by Arno Bonte, alderman of the municipality of Helmond, who nearly slipped with “Gentlemen, start your e…,” four separate groups began the 45 km planned route through Helmond, the vibrant city of Eindhoven on a Saturday evening, and surrounding villages. After the ride (around 11 PM), a Ride-After package was offered, and participants had lively conversations late into the warm summer evening at the Automotive Campus.

This 7th Electric Night Ride was a successful event with an international gathering and a variety of electric motorcycle brands (in alphabetical order): Alrendo Motorcycles, BMW sidecar retrofit and BMWScooter, Energica, LiveWire, NIU, and Zero Motorcycles.

Due to the discontinuation of the electric motorcycle race, Robbens shifted his focus to Saroléa Performance and various new tech projects.

“The FIM Land Speed event at Lausitzring may only have a few dozen participants, but it’s an important starting point for us. I also scoped out the Land Speed races in Bonneville last year; that’s where I want to make my mark with La Belgitude. However, financially and logistically speaking, it made more sense to start at Lausitzring and gather funding before taking on the challenge of arranging transportation to the States,” explained Robbens.

In Lausitz, Germany, Torsten Robbens broke two world records with his specially-made electric motorcycle, La Belgitude. In the category of non-streamlined vehicles weighing under 150 kg, Robbens achieved an average speed of 214.15 km/h. With his body hunched behind a small windshield, he then reached a top speed of 229.50 km/h in the semi-streamlined electric motorcycle class for vehicles under 150 kilograms.

Robbens announced, “I couldn’t be happier with the results.” He continued, “My ultimate goal was to bring recognition to our small and complex country, which is why I named it ‘La Belgitude.’ Every aspect of this project was tailored to my specifications, including the wheels. The main obstacle in the sub-150 kilogram category was the weight of the battery. As we all know, a smaller battery makes it more challenging to generate sufficient power. However, we managed to overcome it.”

Robbens’ next goal is to make his way to the prestigious salt flats of Bonneville for the ultimate record attempts. He explains, “In Lausitz, the distance is limited by the infrastructure. To truly break records, I have to go to Bonneville, but that’s a lofty goal because it requires significant funding. However, my aim is to defend these current records and eventually participate in Bonneville. We’ll see what happens. For now, we’re already making strides towards our goals.”

For the time being, Torsten chooses to keep the technical specifications of his bike confidential. “The industry is small, and our competitors are most likely keeping a close eye on us,” he explains. “But I can confidently say that I am extremely pleased with our results in Lausitz, and I firmly believe we have the expertise to excel at a higher level, like Bonneville. However, everything needs to align perfectly, and as is often the case in racing, funding is crucial.”

In January of 2024, THE PACK Plaza made an appearance at the inaugural Brussels Auto Show (BAS), hosted by 402 Automotive. The event drew a crowd of 122,000 people, and BAS organizer Ronald van den Broek has already revealed plans for a second show next year in Ghent.

Ronald van den Broek: “Starting in 2025, the Brussels Auto Show will now be known as the Belgium Auto Show and will take place at Flanders Expo in Ghent. This move allows for over 70,000 square meters of space to create an unparalleled car exhibition. There will also be a focus on new car models and contributions from local and regional distributors, as well as dozens of exhibitors from the aftermarket, leasing, accessories and more. Combining the ease of use of an e-bike at its lowest ride mode with the power of a performance motorcycle at its highest mode, The District can silently navigate on-and-off road, from dirt trails to alleyways and parking lots. The e-moto is powered by portable electric battery packs (CORE) that are easy to recharge with a standard power outlet or swap a low battery with a fully charged one.

Cleveland is the first police department to purchase The District for patrolling. While the investment will lead to significant savings in gas and maintenance costs, the department is also attracted to the advantages of covering more ground at large concerts, parades and sporting events, and breaking down physical barriers between the public and officers.

With this year’s opening ceremony sending athletes on boats down the Seine, DAB Motors reimagines individual sports for the road, incorporating colours, details, cultural references and iconography into each proposal.

Titled ‘A la gloire du sport’, the collection are proposals from the DAB Custom Studio (DCS), a bespoke service branch of DAB Motors dedicated to creating unique and experimental adaptations and adjustments for customers.

Using the recently launched DAB 1α as the starting point, the French motorcycle brand, acquired by Peugeot Motocycles in 2023, celebrates the triumph of Paris this year to converge sport and motorcycling. Referencing Founder Simon Dabadie’s favourite sports from this year’s tournament, the design exploration creates sporting alter-egos for the electric motorbike, each in a colour referencing one of the five rings.

With the brand’s production bikes drawing inspiration from BMX culture and retro video games, this new release takes this approach one step further, creating fun and playful proposals for electric motorcycles dedicated to Surfing, Basketball, Skateboarding, Tennis and Boxing.

Each electric motorcycle features it own distinctive aesthetic informed by the culture and legacy of the individual sport:

Basketball (Yellow): This design involves the exciting energy of the basketball court, while nodding to the game’s connections to street culture and hip hop music.

Boxing (Red): A colour indicative of strength and resilience, the red paint job is accentuated with golden side panels reminiscent of championship belts with boxing gloves displayed proudly on the seat strap. Adding a playful twist, the iconic DAB flat front plate features Mike Tyson’s famous face tattoo, adding a lighthearted touch to the bike’s design.

Tennis (Green): Inspired by sport’s elegance and tradition, the front “panier” is perfect for carrying tennis balls and picnic items. The bike’s refined aesthetic is underscored by a green and white tartan seat, racket holder, and custom brown tires.

Surfing (Blue): An ode to the adventurous, free-spirited lifestyle synonymous with surfing, this ocean blue motorbike features a front luggage rack, a surf rack and DAB surfboard. With a blue neoprene seat, off-road tires and silver fork, this surf-theme bike is fit for coastal scenes of Biarritz, where the DAB brand began.

Skateboarding (Black): Designed with thrill-seekers in mind, this bike speaks to the underground convergence between skateboarding and BMX culture with a forged carbon bodywork detailed with hand-painted graffiti and a BMX handlebar foam. Unique features include crash pods, a tubular protection structure and skate rack.

Founded in 2018 by French entrepreneur Simon Dabadie, DAB Motors is a boutique electric motorcycle manufacturer based in Bayonne, France. It amassed a cult celebrity following, including the likes of J Balvin, FKA Twigs, Marcus Rashford, and Rosalía, as well as an exclusive collaboration with Burberry. In April 2024, the brand opened registration for the DAB 1α, its first production electric motorbike.

About Simon Dabadie

Simon Dabadie is a French-based designer, engineer, and entrepreneur. He is the Founder, CEO and Chief Design Officer of DAB Motors, which set out to redefine the traditional motorcycling world, by putting creativity and innovation at the forefront. Born and raised in Bayonne, Southwest France, Dabadie continues to work and live in the French city.

Dabadie studied and trained as an engineer before working as a 3D designer for world-leading motorcycle brands, including Yamaha, Skully Systems and Roland Sands Design. Equipped with expert knowledge of the mechanics of engineering and the motorcycle industry, Dabadie began DAB Motors with just one computer, one 3D printer and one prototype motorcycle. In 2023, his concept brand was acquired by Peugeot Motocycles.

When the team from Vagabund first encountered the CE 02 at the BMW Days in Berlin, they were immediately enamored. It was love at first sight! They also gained insight into BMW-Motorrad’s marketing strategy, which was incredibly intriguing. Paul Brauchart (design) and Philip Rabl (tech) are always striving to push boundaries and put their own unique spin on things at Vagabund. For this project specifically, they would describe their design approach as “retrofuture.” By combining elements of a futuristic design with retro influences, Paul and Philip aimed to create a sense of familiarity for viewers and draw them in. They believed this would greatly appeal to people!

Paul: “We love music, and we know lots of other people in this young, creative, environmentally conscious target group feel the same way! That is probably why we drew most of our inspiration from here (Retro Audio, Dieter Rams). We were really excited to be able to integrate the amazing OB-4 Magic Radio from Teenage Engineering, which really helped us to emphasize this philosophy. The “electric exhaust”, which serves as an umbrella drawer, is another such practical style element.”

Dubbing it as the “ePakourer”, BMW presented their idea while Vagabund incorporated this name into their content and even implemented a small detail – a footboard with skateboard grip tape. In the city setting, they perceive the skateboard as a comparable option to cars in terms of adaptability, eco-friendliness, and ingenuity for transportation.

“Afterall, it is all about the people! Our main video is all about Rania, a 24-year-old musician from Vienna. We portrait her as a creative person that finds a new way through the daily inner-city traffic chaos and has fun at the same time—all thanks to the new CE 02! The background music was created from a beat that Rania and her fellow musicians developed themselves for one of their new tracks.”, says Philip.

Paul: “Of course, this great project also needs an appropriate stage. We thought it would be best to design it directly as an additional product, so we would not leave the local staging to chance. With our specially developed and designed packaging, which can be dismantled and transported, you always have the stage with you and will certainly not be overlooked. The additional integration of lighting elements allows the product to shine even without daylight.”

Insight process

Working on this project was both a daunting challenge and an incredible opportunity! BMW-Motorrad not only provided unwavering support, but also granted Vagabund the creative freedom to truly make this project their own. This encompassed everything from conceptualizing and building, to marketing and overall philosophy. Right from the start, the Vagabund team handled everything in-house or through trusted partners.

Packaging

Vagabund built the entire product from the ground up, including all the technical bits and pieces. With packaging that’s 3.6 m high and tons of technical requirements, there were endless challenges here. The metal frame was completely designed, welded, ground and in this case, even painted by Vagabund. They also developed their own solutions for the final handling/transport.

Content / marketing

With the help of their extensive network, Vagabund was able to cover all areas. General concept, model scouting, clothing, set design/interior, location scouting, video/photography including all technical requirements, sound design and more.

• Headlight: Newly designed and constructed headlight, manufactured using the 3D printing process
• Front mudguard: Newly designed and constructed front mudguard, also manufactured using the 3D printing process

All plastic parts (3D printed parts) are manufactured from polyamide 12 using the SLS printing process. This material corresponds to OEM quality.

Electric Superbike Twente Team: “Due to technical difficulties we could not ride our demo on Saturday until 30 minutes before our second demo ride on Sunday we managed to get the bike ready. A day we will never forget! Thanks to our driver Thijs Westenbrink and SRTD Talentenplan for helping us make our dream come true. Without driver, partners, supporters and students NO SUPERBIKE! With this experience now three days behind us, we are already on our way to Finland! This weekend, we will race against our direct competitor J. Hyneman Center at the newly revised KymiRing Racetrack!”

THE PACK recently had a conversation with Guillaume Escot & Alexandre Zurcher, the organizers of France’s first E-Adventure Festival. From September 20th to 22nd in 2024, they welcome all e-mobility enthusiasts and adventure-seekers to an outdoor activity zone on the peninsula of Lac des Settons, located in the beautiful Morvan region.

This year, over a dozen brands of electric motorbikes will be on display. Whether you’re interested in road bikes, motocross models, vintage designs, or children’s options, you’ll find the finest electric two-wheelers from names like Talaria, Energica, Stark Future, and Maeving. In the event’s “village,” exhibitors will showcase their models, product ranges, equipment, and innovations. This area will also host demonstrations featuring professional riders, muses, or influencers.

Networking

The festival offers a chance for industry experts to gather in a serene location and connect, potentially leading to future partnerships. Stepping away from the usual work environment also helps build team unity and provides an opportunity to bond over a special experience.

Test Rides

The weekend is filled with organized events where models are displayed, giving visitors the opportunity to test them under real-world conditions. The organizers offer help in creating the test routes and adjusting them according to the specific model being evaluated, including support for recharging. By registering for the festival, attendees gain access to road-books that reveal the Morvan region from a fresh perspective. The agenda includes cars, bikes, motorcycles, and both asphalt and off-road tracks.

The “Talks”

Held in a designated room on location, the “talks” provide a chance to discuss various topics related to electric transportation. Over the course of the weekend, attendees can listen to presentations from experts who want to share their projects, showcase their companies and models, dispel misconceptions, and raise awareness about charging solutions for different industries and activities such as businesses and sports.

The Morvan Region / Lac des Settons

The Morvan is an ideal location for a weekend trip, situated 2h30 from Paris and 2h15 from Lyon. This wild and rugged land boasts large lakes and dense fir forests, reminiscent of the landscapes found in Canada. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore picturesque villages such as Châtillon en Bazois and historical sites like the Château de Bazoches during their stay. With its mid-mountain terrain, the area offers a variety of trails, paths, and small roads that are perfect for our test rides.
